SUBJECT: Major Power Shutdown 11/24

Facilities Management Services, Campus Design and Facilities Development have planned a major power shutdown to repair the Scott Hall damage to the 4160V power distribution last week.  An  extended shutdown is needed for Roberts Hall, Scaife Hall, Hamerschlag Hall, Purnell Center, Doherty Hall, and Gates Hillman Center, FMS Building, Hamburg Hall, Smith Hall and Newell-Simon Hall.  For these buildings, the power shutdown is planned for Sunday, November 24 from 6:00 AM until 2:00 PM and heating/chilled water systems not connected to emergency power will start shutting down at 5:00 AM.  Exterior doors will be posted with this notification.

Occupants should shut off all non-essential equipment, make sure all windows are closed and fume hoods are safe before leaving campus for the weekend.

Only authorized are allowed in these buildings during the scheduled power shutdown.  At 3:00 AM on November 24, University Police will patrol buildings and require students, staff and faculty to exit buildings. There will be no power, computers, lights, elevators and very little heat.  Exterior doors will reopen when the buildings systems are safely reenergized.

The Incident Command Center for this power shutdown is the Scott Hall  job trailer stationed in the Porter Hall/Hamerschlag Hall parking lot.  If a department decides to have designated staff member in their space to monitor their equipment, personnel must obtain badges at the Scott Hall trailer for access.

We will be posting updates during the outage using twitter.  If you are interested you may follow our tweets  http://twitter.com/CMU_FMSannounce .
