Hamerschlag Hall Restricted Access Update – 7/29/2015

The high voltage contractor is currently evaluating the system.  FMS will need to do a power shutdown starting after 9:30AM until noon today.  The emergency generator is running and will continue to service the building throughout the outage.

Access still remains restricted during this time.  The outage will be announced on the building intercom system.

The issues we are experiencing are due to low voltage in Hamerschlag Hall after reconnecting the power building.  The low voltage issue is affecting all air-conditioning systems, elevators, and normal power in several floors/wings.

Service to Roberts Hall and Scaife Hall has been restored and personnel may access those buildings.  It is unlikely that service will need to be interrupted to Roberts and Scaife to correct the problems in Hamerschlag.

Please contact the FMS Service Response Center at X8-2910 with any questions.

Update – We have experienced problems in Hamerschlag Hall after reconnecting that building.  While service has been restored to most of the building, circuits serving the Cleanroom are experiencing low voltage.  It is extremely likely that power will need to be interrupted to other areas in Hamerschlag while correcting this problem.  In the meantime, elevators continue to be locked out and access to the building continues to be restricted.

Service to Roberts Hall and Scaife Hall has been restored and personnel may access those buildings.  It is unlikely that service will need to be interrupted to Roberts and Scaife to correct the problems in Hamerschlag.

Further updates to follow as more as known.  A status update will be issued at 9:00 AM if the problem is not resolved by then.

UPDATE:  We have received feedback that the proposed date for the second shutdown (8/4-5) would create significant issues and we would like to suggest alternate dates.  The proposed alternate dates for the second shutdown is either 8/10-11 or 8/11-12

If you have a concern with either date please email swetzel@andrew.cmu.edu

We will issue a notice with the final dates on Wednesday 7/22.

FROM:  Service Response Center

DATE:  July 10, 2015

SUBJECT:  Full Power Shutdowns Affecting Hamerschlag, Scaife and Roberts on 7/28 & 8/4   (Preparation Meeting on 7/9)

FMS and CDFD have planned two full power shutdown that will affect Hamerschlag Hall, Scaife Hall and Roberts Hall.  These shutdowns are necessary to make high voltage power connections for the Scott Hall Project.  As a result of the feedback received at the preparation meeting held on 7/9, dates and times for these outages have been adjusted as follows:

Tuesday, 7/28 at 7PM until Wednesday, 7/29 at 7AM

Tuesday, 8/4 at 7PM until Wednesday, 8/5 at 7AM

The power outages will impact all building systems not connected to the life safety generators.  Therefore, during the power outage, the buildings will be closed.  If you have a special requirement that requires access into Hamerschlag Hall, Roberts Hall or Scaife Hall, you can obtain information on arranging a University Police escort by calling FMS Service Response at X8-2910.
