SUBJECT: 2017 Spring Carnival Details for Facility Coordinators

 

Scheduling and details regarding the Spring Carnival set up and tear down are listed below. 

 

CFA Lawn

·         The Bathroom Trailer will be delivered before 8:00am on Monday April 17, 2017.

·         Rides will be delivered and set up overnight between 10:00pm on Monday April 17,, 2017 and 6:00am on Tuesday April 18, 2017. They will be accessing campus between Hunt and Porter.

o   Rides Hours of Operation:

§  Thursday April 20, 2017: 3:00pm-11:00pm

§  Friday April 21, 2017: 10:00am-11:00pm

§  Saturday April 22, 2017: 10:00am-11:00pm

·         The Tennis Court Amphitheater Stage will be delivered and set up starting at 9:00am on Tuesday April 18, 2017. Company representatives will be on site with FMCS and students to load in.

·         Entertainment on the Tennis Court Amphitheater Stage will take place periodically throughout the weekend within the above ‘Rides Hours of Operations’. Below are some confirmed entertainment acts. A full schedule can be found online at www.springcarnival.org.

o   Thursday April 20, 2017: Opening Ceremony will be at 3pm. The Kiltie Band and Pipe & Drum will be performing at this time.

o   Thursday April 20, 2017: Spring Carnival Committee will be hosting a small concert from 7:30pm-10:00pm on the Tennis Court Amphitheater Stage.

o   Friday April 21, 2017: The Activities Board Comedy show will feature 6 comedians between the hours of 1:30pm-6:30pm on the Tennis Court Amphitheater Stage.

o   Friday April 21, 2017: Alumni Association will be hosting a 90’s Cover Band from 8:00pm-10:00pm

o   Saturday April 22, 2017: Holi, an Indian festival hosted by CMU OM where participants throw splashes of vibrantly colored powder on each other, will be on The Mall from 12:00pm-3:00pm.

o   Saturday April 22, 2017: The Activities Board Concert will be from 7:30pm-10:00pm on the Cut.

CFA Parking Lot

·         Move-on, which is the day when organizations move their materials to their plot on the CFA Parking Lot, is on Friday April 14, 2017 beginning at 6pm until 10pm. During this time, organizations will be driving trucks down Margaret Morrison Street into the CFA Parking Lot, and hand carrying materials across campus.

·         Build Week, which is the period of time from move-on to opening ceremonies when organizations construct booths, will be from Friday April 14, 2017 to Thursday April 20, 2017.

o   Quiet hours will be in effect from 10:00pm-7:00am per city ordinance.

o   From 8:00am-6:00pm, no large speakers will be permitted on site. Only small, computer speakers will be permitted – and only inside the booths.

o   The students will be utilizing saws that will be located inside of a sound dampening container that will have openings on each side. They will be placed on the North Side of the parking lot and will also be partially blocked by a row of booths.

·         The sidewalk closest to the Tennis Courts will be closed for the duration of Build Week and Operations. The sidewalk closest to CFA will be open and handicap accessible, with the CFA side door facing Tepper as the handicap entrance. Signage will be placed accordingly.

·         The bicycle racks located on the sidewalk in between Tennis Courts and CFA Parking Lot will be temporarily relocated to a TBD location in conjunction with the Bicycle Advisory Committee.

·         All wires, hoses, etc. that run across walkways will be covered by bridges to ensure safety.

·         Booth Hours of Operation:

o   Thursday April 20, 2017: 3:00pm-11:00pm

o   Friday April 21, 2017: 11:00am-10:00pm

o   Saturday April 22, 2017: 11:00am-10:00pm

·         Tear-down, which is the period of time when organizations disassemble their booths and return items back to their storage areas, will be on Sunday April 23, 2017. Margaret Morrison and Tech Street traffic will be stopped intermittently on between 8:00am-5:00pm to allow student groups to safely disassemble their structures and clear the CFA Parking Lot.

·         CFA Parking Lot will reopen to permit holders on Monday April 23, 2017.

Building Access

·         Signs will be posted around CFA Parking Lot and CFA Lawn publicizing which buildings are accessible. Signs will also be posted directing people to the nearest restrooms.

o   During Build-Week (Friday April 14 through Thursday April 20) and Operations (Thursday April 20 through Saturday April 22) there will be bathroom trailer and a handicap accessible porta-john located near CFA Parking Lot

Noise

·         During Build-Week, it has been determined that from 8:00am to 6:00pm no large speakers will be permitted on the CFA Parking Lot,

Throughout the duration of Build Week and Operations, SCC will continue to periodically monitor all of campus for cleanliness, safety, and noise to further our efforts for following years.
