Update:

Normal power from the Saline Feeder was successfully reestablished earlier today.  Equipment in buildings should have seen no power interruption when normal service was restored.

SUBJECT: Power Outage in Parts of Main Campus

At approximately 6:20 PM, Duquesne Light lost power to their Saline Feeder which serves approximately 40% of the main campus buildings.  As should occur in such events, there was a brief outage while loads were automatically switched to the two other feeders that service main campus.  FMS personnel are checking buildings to insure that all loads successfully transferred to their backup feeders.  Other FMS crews are restarting building equipment that did not automatically restart.  Duquesne Light does not expect to have normal service restored until sometime on Saturday.  Because of the temperate weather and low campus population, we do not anticipate issues with the remaining feeders carrying the full campus load while power is being restored.  We also anticipate that when service is restored to normal, it can be done without any interruption to building power.

If you have critical electrical or electronic equipment not protected by a UPS you should probably check whether it was affected by the power outage.  We will provide updates as more information becomes available.  Please contact FMCS at 412-268-2910 if you discover any power related issues we may help to resolve.
