SUBJECT: PWSA Water Line Break and Related flooding in SEI & Dithridge St Garage
Overnight between Friday and Saturday a 6” PWSA water line broke in Dithridge Street, This was compounded by a clog in a nearby PWSA sewer line. As a result of these two failures, water backed up through floor drains into the lowest levels of SEI and the Dithridge St Garage. PWSA and their contractors have cleared the sewer line and shut off the water line. FMS personnel and contractors have pumped water from SEI and the Garage and are beginning remediation efforts.
PWSA contractors will be working starting sometime the next day or two to dig up and repair the broken water line. It is unclear what buildings will be without water both before that repair begins and while it is going on. However, for those CMU personnel in affected buildings, restrooms in Mellon Institute will be available. For now parking in the Dithridge St. Garage is restricted to street level and above. Lower level parking should be available by the time the University classes resume on Tuesday.
Further updates will be sent as more details are known.
