SUBJECT: Solar House Deconstruction Project 10/3 – 10/24

Starting tomorrow, 10/3, students and faculty from the School of Architecture (SoA) will begin deconstructing the former BxA administrative offices/2005 CMU Solar Decathlon Competition House as part of studio coursework.

The SoA’s Urban Design Build Studio (UDBS) will be collaborating with students and faculty from the Integrative Design, Arts and Technology (IDeATe) and Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) programs as the building is dismantled and materials are harvested for repurposing in future residential construction.

The area around the building, located in the Donner Dell, will be fenced off for the duration of this work.  Installation of the fence will begin today, 10/2.  All sidewalk access around the construction site will remain open during this work, with minor disruptions as material is transferred off-site for processing.

Work on the project is scheduled to be completed by 10/24.
