UPDATE – Duquesne Light has completed repairs to their redundant high voltage circuit serving CMU buildings. With the exception of CIC, any buildings affected yesterday by the Duquesne Light issue should not have experienced any disruption to power when the circuit was put back in service.
The CIC building will be restored to normal power after 7:00PM tonight, 5/28. The CIC Building will experience a short loss of power when the circuit is placed back in service after 7:00PM. Any computer systems that are not on UPS should be powered down before this occurs.
Please contact Glenn Gross for any questions or concerns regarding the feeder maintenance at gg2q@andrew.cmu.edu or 412-268-2276.

SUBJECT: Duquesne Light Power Issue
Several campus buildings experienced a momentary power disruption at approximately 11:50am due to an issue with one of the three main power circuits from Duquesne Light. FMS crews are checking systems in the affected buildings and we recommend departments remotely review their equipment to confirm normal operation. FMS staff are available for on-campus support to visually verify anything that can’t be reviewed remotely. Buildings affected include:
- Boss Hall
- CFA
- CIC
- Cyert
- Donner
- Gymnasium
- Hamerschlag House
- Hunt Library
- Hall of Arts
- MM Apts
- Mellon Institute
- Scott Hall
- Warner Hall
- Wean Hall
Our campus power distribution system immediately switched to the redundant power source and power remains on to all buildings. However, issues with Duquesne Light power supply can cause momentary voltage sags, phase imbalances or power spikes that may impact sensitive electrical components. Anything powered down for the campus closure would not be affected. We recommended remotely confirming that any operating systems are still on-line and normal.
Duquesne Light crews are working on the repair and have not provided an estimated duration. We will send an updated FMS Announce when normal power is restored. As mentioned, FMS staff are available for on-campus support to visually verify anything that can’t be reviewed remotely. Please contact our Service Response Center at 412.268.2910 for assistance.
