UPDATE – Due to weather, the crane was unable to safely operate and the schedule for the work below has shifted.  Hamerschlag Drive will now be reopening at 3PM on Tuesday, 12/8.  Access to the CIC and Gates Garage will now be closed on 12/8, not 12/4, when the crane is being disassembled.

UPDATE – Thank you to those who were able to call in to the Wean Hall exhaust upgrades project discussion meeting last week.  Please see the attached updated logistics plan, laydown area plan and the Wean Hall 8^th floor impacts for the period of 11/30 – 12/4.

Below are some action items discussed during the meeting:

1. Wean , Doherty, Scott Hall loading docks will be inaccessible for deliveries from 11/30 – 12/4. Notices will be posted at the loading docks. It is requested that all deliveries be scheduled outside this closure period.
2. The bridge connecting Newell Simon and Wean will remain closed during crane operations (6:00AM – 3:30PM).  The availability of the bridge for access depends on the parking position of the crane; which is contingent on the wind and weather conditions. Please arrange for an alternate route for routine access between Wean and Newell Simon during this time.  A scheduled escort will need to be coordinated if specific departments will need access to the bridge for moving equipment.
3. Any adjustments to schedule will be communicated via an FMCS announce.

SUBJECT: Wean Hall Exhaust Upgrades Project – Discussion Meeting 11/19

Campus Design & Facility Development (CDFD) is working with Facilities Management & Campus Services(FMCS) on the Wean Hall Exhaust Upgrades Project this Fall. The project scope includes replacing the laboratory exhaust fans at Wean Hall with a new system.

This project entails erecting a crane at the hairpin turn of Hamerschlag Drive in order to lift the supporting steel structure and the mechanical equipment.

The following will be affected during this work:

1. Access to the CIC and Gates Garage will be closed on 11/30 and 12/4 , when the crane is being assembled on site and dis-assembled, respectively.
2. Parking along Hamerschlag Drive will be restricted due to crane operations.
3. Due to the swing of the crane during operations, the Newell Simon Bridge will be closed for pedestrian access from 11/30 – 12/4. Please plan your access between Wean and Gates through the main access – through the cut and the mall.
4. Please note that due to the swing of the crane we recommend that the following rooms on the 8th floor of Wean Hall remain unoccupied during the week of 11/30. ( Attached Wean 8th Floor Floorplan)
