SUBJECT: Fifth Avenue Waterline Work – Week of 2/22
Contractors for CMU we will be terminating an abandoned water line from 4721 Fifth Ave (Marketing & Communications Building) beginning on Monday, 2/22. The termination is to the 16″ main in Fifth Avenue. The work will take a total of approximately 1 week, with working hours between 9am and 3pm.
Traffic flow in both directions on Fifth Avenue will be maintained. Work will require 2 lanes of Fifth Avenue to be closed during the day. Traffic controls will be present to direct the westbound lanes of Fifth Avenue into 1 of the eastbound lanes. Clyde Street will also be accessible during this time, with a flagger present to assist. Bike traffic should reroute with vehicle traffic. Plates will be used to allow normal traffic patterns outside of the 9am to 3pm working hours.
The sidewalk on the north side of Fifth Avenue will be closed in front of 4721 Fifth Avenue. Pedestrians will be able to reroute by using Clyde Street sidewalks to Neville and/or sidewalks between 4721 Fifth Ave and 4705 Fifth Ave to Neville.
Once the water line is exposed, PWSA will shut down the 16 inch line for the actual termination to occur. At that time, PWSA will notify all local buildings that will be affected by this line being shut down. We expect this water line to be shut down for less than 8 hours.
This work is being managed by Jan Held and Penny Toniolo, Project Managers with CDFD. If there are any questions on this work please contact them at jheld@cmu.edu and ptoniolo@andrew.cmu.edu.
