SUBJECT: CIC HVAC Work – Discussion Meeting 5/31 2PM

In an ongoing effort to replace and update the HVAC infrastructure within the Robert Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center (CIC) building, CDFD and FMCS, working with our mechanical contracting team, would like to discuss the upcoming work planned for this Summer and Fall.  There will be a ZOOM meeting on Tuesday, 5/31, at 2PM to discuss the details of this work and to answer any questions.  Please send an email to Shannon Wetzel at swetzel@andrew.cmu.edu if you would like to be invited to this meeting.

Work within the building can be separated into two (2) categories:

1. Building HVAC equipment replacement managed by CMU.

2.  Duct routing from level LL to the roof managed by another CIC tenant, but supported and approved by CMU.

A general schedule of work for the main HVAC equipment replacement is listed below.  More detailed descriptions, including areas of work/disruption, will be discussed during the meeting.

June 2022 – Installation of control wiring and new sensors under the raised floor within the tenant spaces on each floor

July 2022 – Installation of new control and life safety dampers within the main corridor outside of the restrooms on each floor

August 2022 – Installation of new control and life safety dampers within isolated areas of some tenant spaces on each floor

September 2022 – Pause in work (or make-up time) as we wait for the main HVAC units to ship from the factory

October 2022 – Replacement of the first of two HVAC units on the roof (aka rooftop unit; RTU)

November 2022 – Commissioning and proof of operation for the first new RTU

December 2022 – Replacement of the 2nd RTU between fall and winter break

Work related to air ducts to the roof will be discussed at the end of the meeting for the few tenants that will be affected by this isolated work.
