SUBJECT: ACTION REQUESTED – Reducing Energy Waste

In an effort to identify and eliminate energy waste, we need your support and insight.

The upcoming Thanksgiving vacation and Winter Break are periods when the university is officially closed, and many spaces will be empty.  As part of the Sustainability Initiative, we have a campus goal to reduce energy waste – and we define waste as energy consumption that could be eliminated with zero negative impacts.  For example, when classrooms are locked overnight, we coordinated with the Registrar Office to automatically turn down the heating/cooling.  While classrooms run on a predictable schedule, many of your department spaces are always available during the semester to support students and faculty.  However, that 'always on' level of service may not be prudent over the breaks.  That's why we need your assistance with identifying where we can turn down the heat (and how low) with zero negative impacts.

Would you like to reduce your department’s carbon footprint by working with us to identify and target waste?  Please email fixit@andrew.cmu.edu to start the process.
