Facilities Management & Campus Services
TO: Shutdown Group, SEI
FROM: FMCS Service Response Center
SUBJECT: EHS – SEI Building Survey 7/16-7/17
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will be conducting a building survey in SEI starting Wednesday, 7/16, and ending Thursday, 7/17. The purpose of the survey is to sample building materials for asbestos, which may be hazardous when disturbed as part of renovation or maintenance. In their intact forms, such building materials are not hazardous to building occupants.
EHS does not have existing sampling records for the SEI building. This survey will verify that common and accessible building materials found throughout the facility (e.g. drywall, ceiling tiles, floor tiles) are free of asbestos.
During the survey, EHS will be escorted by a member of Facilities Management and Campus Services (FMCS) or other escort provided by facility management. Please note that while some noise will be generated during the survey process (e.g. hammering), it will be reduced to the greatest extent possible.
Additional information can be found on the EHS Asbestos Management Program webpage. Should you have any questions, please contact EHS at safety@andrew.cmu.edu, Harold Major (hemajor@sei.cmu.edu), or Amanda Glover (amandaa@andrew.cmu.edu).
