Facilities Management & Campus Services
TO: Shutdown Group, All Facility Coordinators
FROM: FMCS Service Response Center
SUBJECT: FMCS Operations Over Winter Break
Facilities Management & Campus Services would like to wish you happy holidays and thank you for everything you do to support us all year!
With few exceptions, FMCS will be closed for Winter Break from Wednesday, December 23 starting at 2PM until Monday, January 5, 2026. Below is information for each department during this period.
FMS and CUSTODIAL SERVICES
During this time, FMS and Custodial Services will have minimal staffing on campus. The FMCS Service Response Center phone number, 412-268-2910, will be active 24-hours a day, however, the office will not be staffed. Any service requests sent to fixit@andrew.cmu.edu, cleanit@andrew.cmu.edu or through our website will not be processed until after the New Year. Although the office will be closed, facilities operations personnel will be on site 24/7 throughout the duration of the closure period. If you need immediate assistance, please call 412-268-2910 and your request will be routed to our Duty Supervisor and onsite staff. Normal routine services will resume Monday, January 5.
We encourage you to turn off lights, check refrigerators and coffee makers, unplug all non-essential electronics, and close all windows before leaving for the holidays. If you are in over winter break, please put office or food waste in common-area receptacles.
Please be advised that all academic buildings will be closed to the public from 7PM on Tuesday, December 23 and continuing through 7AM on Monday, January 5. During this period, all exterior doors will be locked and accessible exclusively via CMU ID card access.
Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) in collaboration with Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC) has created a “Laboratory Planned Closure Checklist.” This checklist may also be found under EHS' Chemical Safety Guidelines at: https://www.cmu.edu/ehs/Guidelines/index.html.
The purpose of this checklist is to assist in ensuring that CMU laboratories, classrooms, offices, and high value assets remain secure and safe during planned campus closures/breaks and power outages. This checklist serves as a foundational guide and can be adapted for your specific requirements; however, strict adherence to the critical risk mitigation controls, especially securing the building perimeter (windows), utility lines (including in kitchen areas), and high-risk equipment, is required to prevent facility damage that would severely disrupt campus operations and necessitate activating Emergency and Business Continuity plans. Please contact safety@andrew.cmu.edu for assistance.
