UPDATE- All pedestrian sidewalks on the Forbes Avenue bridge itself are now open and fully accessible.

Tepper Quad Area Pedestrian Adjustments Due to ongoing University Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) construction throughout Oakland, please note the following adjustments directly in front of the Tepper Quad:

  • Crosswalk Layouts: The high-visibility “piano key” crosswalks across Forbes Avenue between the Tepper Quad and Hamburg Hall remain open.

  • Signal Enhancements: Pedestrian countdown signals at Forbes Avenue and Cyert Drive/Tepper Quad now use extended timing to ensure safe crossing against heavier vehicular traffic.

  • Western Intersection Work: Temporary fencing and safety barriers are in place heading west toward South Craig Street and Forbes Avenue for long-term site preparation for the future Richard King Mellon Hall of Sciences.

Community members should continue to exercise caution and allow extra travel time when navigating the area.

SUBJECT: Forbes Avenue Bridge Sidewalk Repairs

The City of Pittsburgh Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) is currently performing repairs to the
north sidewalk of the Forbes Avenue bridge adjacent to Richard King Mellon (RKM) Building.

Community members traveling through this area should expect temporary changes to pedestrian travel routes and use caution near the work zone. Since the south sidewalk remains closed, individuals may experience delays or need to seek alternate routes when traveling between campus locations.

We are working to confirm details regarding the pedestrian traffic plan, including accessible routing, and will share additional information as it becomes available.

For questions or concerns, please contact the FMS Service Response Center at 412-268-2910.
