PWSA discovered another break in the water mains on Forbes affecting buildings on the east side of Margaret Morrison Street.   They are bringing the excavation team back in and will continue on the repair tonight.  Water remains off until further notice.

On a positive note, we expect People’s Gas to restore gas service tonight in Woodlawn Apartments and FMS will restart the heating system.  In addition,  People’s Gas will replace the frozen gas meter at Resnik tonight so the kitchens should be in full operation tomorrow morning.

FMS has a crew of Plumbers on campus and ready to assist with the water service and gas service restoration.

UPDATE – PWSA is continuing to investigate the cause of the water main break that occurred yesterday morning.  Water continues to remain off at this time. 

The contractor is also scheduled to replace the gas lines to Woodlawn Apartments today.  Temporary heaters have been installed and heat should be restored this afternoon.

SUBJECT:  Water main break- Hill dorms affected- 12/18/16

A city water main on Forbes Avenue near Margaret Morrison Street broke overnight.  Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) has turned off water as part of the repair but has not provided a time estimate for when water will be restored.  Several of the student residence halls on the east side of Margaret Morrison Street (Hill Dorms) are affected and have no water service – bathrooms and showers are out of service.
