SUBJECT: Warner, Cyert, Baker & Porter Halls Power Shutdowns 8/11

A power shutdown is tentatively scheduled for Warner, Cyert, Baker and Porter Halls on Saturday, 8/11, from 4:00AM – 11:59PM.  This shutdown is necessary in order to continue work on the 2 circuits for those buildings.

Cyert Hall is expected to be without power during the whole shutdown.  Warner, Baker and Porter Halls will have two shutdowns during this timeframe for approximately 3-4 hours towards the end of the overall shutdown.

SUBJECT: Baker/Porter Hall Power Shutdown 6/9 5:30AM-5:30PM

The power to Baker and Porter Halls will be off on Saturday, 6/9, from 5:30AM – 5:30PM in order to continue work on the 2 circuits for those buildings.

UPDATE – There will be a 4 hour power shutdown affecting Warner, Cyert and Porter Halls on Friday, 4/6, starting at 8:00PM. 

There will also be a 2 ½ hour power shutdown on Saturday, 4/7, starting at 3:30PM that will only affect Baker Hall.

During these shutdowns, work will be done on the high voltage power to all four buildings in order to make the final connections.

UPDATE – Repairs to the high voltage electrical equipment serving Baker Hall, Porter Hall, Warner Hall and Cyert Hall will be ongoing.  Occupants should expect additional power shutdowns to one or more of the affected buildings.  Updates will be sent when those shutdowns are scheduled to occur. Every attempt will be made to schedule these planned outages to minimize disruption of academic and research programs.

The emergency generator providing power to Baker Hall will remain through next week with expected repairs completed the week of April 2^nd.

UPDATE – There will be a power shutdown in Baker Hall starting tomorrow, 3/22, at 11:00PM until 5:00AM on Friday, 3/23.  This shutdown is necessary in order to test the high voltage electrical equipment serving Baker Hall.

UPDATE – The replacement generator arrived on site at 4:45.  We plan to turn power off shortly after 5:00 PM and should have power restored by 7:00 PM.

UPDATE:  The time for the power shutdown in Baker Hall tomorrow (Sunday, March 18th) has been changed to 12:30pm to 4:30pm.

UPDATE – All power will be shut off in Baker Hall tomorrow (Sunday, March 17^th) from 8:00 AM to Noon to replace the generator installed last night with a quieter model to minimize disruption to campus.    

UPDATE – The shutdown originally scheduled for tonight Saturday) at 6:00 PM has been postponed.  Occupants should continue to expect additional shutdowns in the coming week or so to one or more of the affected buildings at a time.  A Baker Hall shutdown may occur as soon as midday tomorrow (Sunday) and is expected to last 3-4 hours.  Exact timing of that shutdown will be posted as soon as shipping schedules can be more precisely determined.

UPDATE – Power has been restored to all circuits in Baker Hall using the temporary emergency generator.

Making final repairs will require multiple power interruptions to all 4 buildings and, potentially to other buildings on campus.  Every attempt will be made to schedule these planned outages to minimize disruption of academic and research programs.   Investigations will continue throughout the weekend.  Updates will be sent out as plans solidify.

UPDATE – Electrical service has been restored to Cyert Hall, Warner Hall and Porter Hall.  Baker Hall is still without power.  The high voltage cable failures to the electric lines serving Baker Hall damaged both the primary and secondary electric service to Baker Hall. An emergency generator has been brought in to provide temporary power to Baker Hall while repairs proceed on regular service to the building.  The temporary power connection to Baker Hall is expected to be completed later today.

Additional updates will be sent out later today.

UPDATE – Failure in circuits to the following buildings in preparation for the planned shutdown has resulted in power disruption.  Work is being done now to restore power.  Repair is expected to take several hours and may not be restored until later tonight.

Cyert, Warner, Baker and Porter are affected by this power disruption.

UPDATE – In order to complete additional work identified in last weekend’s shutdown, a 6 hour power shutdown has been scheduled for this Saturday, 3/17, starting at 6:00PM until midnight.  This shutdown will affect Warner, Cyert, Porter and Baker Halls.  Access to the buildings will be prohibited during this time.

The planned work includes an initial phase that will last approximately two hours – if that work is successful, power will be restored before midnight.  If the initial phase identifies additional issues with the high voltage cables, then additional testing will be completed within the full 6 hour power shutdown.

This shutdown is weather dependent and will be postponed if temperatures are judged to be too cold.  The current forecast is within acceptable temperature ranges.

UPDATE – The 12 hour power shutdown on Friday night was completed, however testing of the existing cables identified issues that will require additional work.  FMS is consulting with high voltage experts to determine the best options to complete the needed repairs.  More information will be provided in future updates.

UPDATE – The 3 hour power shutdown that occurred on Sunday, 3/4, went well and allowed us to prepare for the 12 hour power shutdown that is scheduled for this Friday, 3/9, starting at 6:00PM.  This shutdown will continue until Saturday, 3/10, at 6:00AM.  This is necessary to repair and restore normal service to Warner, Cyert, Baker and Porter Halls.  Access to these buildings will be prohibited during this time.

This shutdown is weather dependent and will be postponed if temperatures are judged to be too cold.  A notice will be sent if this needs to be cancelled.  We are tentatively looking at Friday, 3/16, into Saturday, 3/17, as the back-up days if this needs to be rescheduled.

SUBJECT: 3 Hour Power Shutdown 3/4 1AM-4AM

There will be a 3 hour multiple building power shutdown on Sunday, 3/4, from 1:00AM – 4:00AM and will affect the following buildings:

–          Warner Hall

–          Cyert Hall

–          Baker Hall

–          Porter Hall

This shutdown is necessary in order to repair one of the high voltage cables serving Porter Hall that experienced a critical failure in a manhole on the Mall earlier last month. 

This will be the first of two shutdowns necessary to repair and restore normal service to the buildings listed above.  The second power outage is currently scheduled to occur on Saturday, 3/10, starting at 9:00PM and will last through Sunday, 3/11, at 10:00AM.  More details regarding this second shutdown will be sent following the initial shutdown.
