Duquesne Light Company (DLC) will be replacing a high voltage transformer at Mellon Institute today, 8/16.  Crews will be working on S Dithridge Street and the sidewalk will be closed.  The transformer was damaged during the power fault over the weekend.  Mellon Institute is served from two redundant DLC power services and this work involves only one circuit, so normal power from the primary circuit will remain unaffected by the work.  If there is an issue with normal building power, the building generator will start and serve critical electrical loads.

Please contact Bob Penn, FMS Metering and Automation Systems Engineer, at 412-251-2658 or rpenn@andrew.cmu.edu for any questions or concerns regarding this expedited replacement.

UPDATE – Power Issue at Mellon Institute

Duquesne Light returned to Mellon Institute this evening to reset their equipment associated with this morning’s power fault.  They experienced an issue that caused a power loss to portions of Mellon Institute.  Normal power has been restored.

Duquesne Light will return tomorrow to complete repairs.  However, any fault on the utility company high voltage circuit can cause power irregularities that impact equipment.  FMS staff are confirming building system operations and we recommend departments check their sensitive electronic equipment.

Please contact Bob Penn, FMS Metering and Automation Systems Engineer, at 412-251-2658 or rpenn@andrew.cmu.edu for any questions or concerns regarding this shutdown.

SUBJECT: DLC High Voltage Circuit Issue at 6AM 8/14/2021

A main circuit from Duquesne Light serving Mellon Institute, Robert Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center, and Main Campus experienced a power fault at 6AM this morning.  Normal power has been restored in all buildings.  However, any fault on the utility company high voltage circuit can cause power irregularities that impact equipment.  FMS staff are confirming building system operations and we recommend departments check their sensitive electronic equipment.
