SUBJECT: Long Term Storage Relocation Reminder

In the coming months, Carnegie Mellon will finish moving its Penn Avenue warehouse functions to the new university warehouse property in Etna. CMU departments that still have items stored at the 6555 Penn Avenue location should review their stored inventory by Dec. 8, 2023. All unvalidated items remaining at Penn Avenue after Dec. 8 will be discarded.

Retained items must then be moved to the Etna warehouse by Jan. 19, 2024. Items requiring transportation to/from our main campus will be subject to a delivery charge at the hourly truck driver rate. Facilities personnel can help recycle, donate or dispose of any items no longer needed, including large bulk items such as furniture. We can also help transition items, such as document files, to more appropriate storage solutions, such as Iron Mountain.

If you need a list of your stored inventory, would like to visit the warehouse or need assistance, please contact Sherry Pipchock at spipchok@andrew.cmu.edu or 412-268-1031. Faculty and staff may also visit 6555 Penn Avenue from 1-3 p.m. on Fridays, now through Dec. 8, to review stored items.

Frequently asked questions about the warehouse move are included below.

Will there be a department cost to move any long-term storage items from 6555 Penn Ave. to Etna?

No, any long-term storage items moved from Penn Ave. to Etna will be covered as part of the warehouse move. Items requiring transportation to/from our main campus, however, will be subject to a delivery charge at the hourly truck driver rate.

How do I dispose of items that I no longer wish to remain in storage?

Facilities personnel will assist with disposal of any items at no additional cost. Items will be recycled where possible.

For file box storage, a few options exist:

·       File box storage can be sent to Iron Mountain

·       Iron Mountain can dispose of any file box documents and shred them on-site if they contain sensitive information

·       Facilities personnel can recycle file box contents (paper) if no personally identifiable or sensitive information is contained within

How do I find out what long-term storage items my department is currently paying for?

Contact Sherry Pipchock at spipchok@andrew.cmu.eduor 412-268-1031. You may also schedule a warehouse visit to assess and validate your storage items.

What is the last date I have to validate or dispose of my storage items?

All items should be reviewed/validated by Dec. 8, 2023, and removed or disposed of by Jan. 19, 2024.

What will happen if I do not validate or dispose of my items by the above dates?

Facilities personnel will notify the respective department and dispose of the abandoned items.
