Facilities, Infrastructure and Risk Management (FIRM)

Facilities Management & Campus Services

TO:  Shutdown Group, CIC, Building Access

FROM:  Service Response Center

SUBJECT: CIC Roof Replacement Starting Tomorrow 5/30

Work will begin to replace the roof of the
Robert Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center building (CIC) tomorrow, 5/30 and will last into the Fall semester.

  • The contractors will begin setting up on site this Friday, 5/30, and the first of several crane lifts will be Saturday, 5/31.
  • CIC Drive will be closed starting at 6 AM on Saturday morning and will reopen by approximately 5 PM Saturday night.  Parking will be closed in front of the building starting on Friday evening.
  • A dumpster will be located close to Forbes Ave for the duration of the project.  Vehicular traffic will be narrowed to one lane near the dumpster.
  • Note that there will be flaggers directing pedestrians away from the dumpster during supervised drops (through a chute) from above.
  • There will be a material hoist near the main entrance of the building.  The main entrance may be intermittently closed during material lifts, and they will also be supervised at ground level.
  • Contractors will be working four-day, 10-hour shifts from 6 AM to 4 PM from Monday to Thursday.  Friday's will be used only as make-up days for bad weather.
  • The CIC Garage and Level L entrance closer to Forbes Ave will remain open during crane lifts and material hoists.
Please see the attached site plan for more information on restricted pedestrian access to the building during the crane lift.
